Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Vascular Anomalies
An investigation into the "secret mysteries" of life

In 1657, the physician William Harvey intuited a truth confirmed by 20th centurary developmental biologists and geneticists: that "Nature is nowhere accustomed more openly to display her secret mysteries than in cases where she shows traces of her workings apart from the beaten path...the proper practice of medicine [is] to give our minds to the discovery of the usual law of nature by careful investigation of cases of rarer forms of disease."

The goal of this international scientific project is to better understand, at a molecular and cellular level, the development of vascular anomalies in humans. When we can comprehend the processes that lead to abnormally large blood vessels, we will also better understand the complex system of human growth and development.
